Biography/ Philosophy of Care

Dr. Terry Cohen was born and raised in Louisville, KY and has been a practicing Neonatology since returning in 1996 after fellowship and later joined Norton Healthcare in 2011. Dr. Cohen was the Medical Director of the NICU at Norton Women and Children’s Hospital from 1998 though 2004 and resumed the responsibility of Assistant Medical Director in 2011. Besides managing the day-to-day care of premature and sick newborns, his clinical care responsibilities include oversight of the monthly Maternal-Fetal-Medicine Conference at NWCH and as a long term member of the NICU Appraisal and Quality Improvement Committees. Dr. Cohen provides ongoing planning and frequently lectures at Norton Healthcare sponsored educational conferences. Over the years, he has developed a philosophy of care that both focuses on the long term outcomes of premature infants, while constantly re-examining the current models of treatment used during the acute phase of their illnesses.
Dr. Cohen has been voted by his peers as one of Louisville Magazine’s Top Docs for 2019.

Clinical/Research Interests:

Dr. Cohen’s primary passion is in the mentoring of students interested in medical careers. Previously to joining Norton Healthcare, he was the Director of The Young Scholars Program, an annual summer internship developed for local high school students interested in medical careers, and since continues to engage, mentor, and serve as a shadowing physician for multiple college students each year.
