Richard E McCarthy, MD

Richard E. McCarthy, M.D., is an orthopedic surgeon with Norton Children’s Orthopedics of Louisville, affiliated with the UofL School of Medicine.  Dr. McCarthy earned his medical degree from the State University of New York at Brooklyn College of Medicine. He completed his internship in internal medicine at Boston Medical Center, and residencies in general surgery at Tufts Medical Center, and orthopedic surgery at Harvard Medical School, all in Boston, Massachusetts. He also completed fellowships at Harvard Medical School and Boston Children’s Hospital.

Dr. McCarthy has over four decades of experience and specializes in pediatric spine care, particularly treating adolescents with spinal deformities. He is dedicated to his patients, working closely with them and their families to ensure understanding and trust throughout the treatment process.

Beyond work, Dr. McCarthy enjoys quality time with his family and spending time fishing.
