Biography/ Philosophy of Care
Paul J. Rosen, Ph.D., is a licensed clinical child psychologist with Norton Children’s Behavioral & Mental Health, affiliated with the UofL School of Medicine. Dr. Rosen specializes in assessment and treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children and adolescents.
Dr. Rosen earned his doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Kentucky College of Arts & Sciences, Lexington. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Center for ADHD at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Ohio.
Before joining Norton Children’s, Dr. Rosen served as a faculty member in the University of Louisville Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences, where he was the founder and director of the Research on ADHD and Children’s Emotion Regulation (RACER) Lab and the ADHD Evaluation Service.
When evaluating and treating children with ADHD, Dr. Rosen focuses on understanding children and families for who they are. He meets with families first to understand a child’s difficulties, personality and strengths, as well as the family dynamics. He tailors individual treatment plans for each child and works to make sure the visits and therapy are appropriate and enjoyable, and that the strategies can be implemented at home.
Dr. Rosen’s research and clinical interests focus primarily on emotional dysregulation and ADHD in children, including developing and testing new treatments for emotions and frustration in children with ADHD. He has authored or co-authored over 30 peer-reviewed articles in premier research journals regarding ADHD, emotional development and peer relations. Dr. Rosen is the primary author of “Managing Frustration for Children with ADHD,” the first evidenced-based intervention focusing on emotion regulation difficulties in children with ADHD.
