Biography/ Philosophy of Care
Dr. Schwenk joined the University of Louisville Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine in 2009 and has served as Associate Division Chief since 2015. He chairs the Readmissions Task Force, oversees the bronchiolitis protocol for the med/surg units, and residency quality improvement projects regarding maintenance IV fluid use and hospital readmissions. In addition, he serves on several Norton Children’s Hospital and University of Louisville based committees. He has been received a top 20 faculty teaching award and the Scott Robinson Memorial Award by the graduating pediatric residency class for an individual that goes above and beyond in their personal and professional lives.

Clinical/Research Interests:
Clinical: Inpatient management of bronchiolitis and the use of heated high-flow nasal cannula in acute respiratory failure, preventable readmissions, maintenance IV fluid use in hospitalized children, and resident education.
Research: Abusive head trauma in victims of child abuse, inpatient IV fluid use, quality improvement, readmissions.
