Biography/ Philosophy of Care

Dr. Sparks joined the University of Louisville Division of Pediatric Cardiology in 2012.  He has led the Pediatric Heart Transplant program at Norton Children’s Hospital and University of Louisville since 2014, and under his leadership the program has grown and provided excellent outcomes for patients, including the first implantation of a mechanical ventricular assist device (VAD) in a child in the state of Kentucky. 



Dr. Sparks serves on committees for national and international heart transplant organizations including the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT) and Pediatric Heart Transplant Society (PHTS), and serves as a co-investigator for multicenter research studies which offer the opportunity for patients in Kentucky and southern Indiana to enroll in clinical trials.
