Biography/ Philosophy of Care

Dr. Fred Warkentine joined the University of Louisville Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine as faculty in 2006. In addition to his clinical responsibilities in emergency medicine he maintains a strong interest in developing novel uses of point of care ultrasound, (POCUS), to deliver high quality emergent care to the children of Kentuckiana. He also has a strong interest in teaching others about POCUS. Dr. Warkentine has lectured and taught hands on courses at several regional and national venues. His research has focused on novel uses of POCUS in pediatric patients as well as development of national consensus guidelines for the training of pediatric emergency fellows in point of care ultrasound. Dr. Warkentine believes that POCUS can make a real difference in the outcomes of pediatric patients in the emergency department.
