Reed completed his M.S. at the University of Louisville in Communicative Disorders. He is a speech-language pathologist, or speech therapist, working only with children who are deaf/hard-of-hearing and their families. Reed uses what is called an auditory-verbal approach, which says that children who are deaf/hard-of-hearing can achieve amazing progress in speaking and listening when they have access to sound from their listening devices (hearing aids and cochlear implants). In sessions, Reed works with families to build the confidence and skills to teach children to learn to speak by learning to listen. He works with children as young as 3-months to high school age, including children with complex communication needs resulting from conditions such as cerebral palsy and deafblindness. Reed works closely with the committed group of audiologists who work just across the hall. He believes that families and caregivers succeed when they feel supported, encouraged, informed, and understood.
